Design is a skill that many companies can acquire, but only a few have the knowledge and experience to understand clients' business objectives. As a multidisciplinary design consultancy practice, we hone the craft beyond working with graphics to better articulate business and creative decisions to both clients and their stakeholders.
Servicing the need from graphic design, 3D visualization, photography, film to staging large scale physical and virtual conferences, we have the tools and expertise to make it happen without a glitch. Instead of the typical outsourcing production model, we build in-house capabilities in the full spectrum. Our main operation is in Singapore, and with established regional affiliations, we are boundaryless.
We believe every project outcome is a direct result of the accumulative experience of the team involved, and we advocate a strong partnership with our selective clients to achieve success regardless of the project scale.
What is a multidisciplinary approach? A multidisciplinary design approach seeks to integrate the skills and methodology of designers from multiple disciplines into a collaborative effort. Multidisciplinary designers understand how diverse areas of expertise can come together to solve complex design problems.
Knowing about every aspect of design allows us to be better creative overall. We know how to take an ordinary design project and make it extraordinary. By understanding the inner workings of the design process as a whole, we'll take creativity to new heights, which will enhance the project outcome.
A designer these days means more than just working with graphics. A designer can be a slew of different things – a web designer, ceramic designer, user experience designer, textile designer, interior designer, object designer, game designer, etc… The list can go on.
While specializing in one area of design does have it's perks, taking a multidisciplinary approach offers clients many extra benefits that will make the work more cohesive and increase engagement.
Many projects no longer follow a pipeline workflow, going to one person to another after each task is complete. Many are working on the same creative project at the same time to create successful projects that fit seamlessly together. Because of this new workflow, many designers are learning about other areas of design and can help the other person with their workload and vice versa. With less gap to bridge across different stakeholders, projects get delivered cost-effectively and quickly.
Does having a suite of portfolio justify one's worth, or should the years of practice substantiate value? For the uninitiated, a design firm will always be subjected to portfolio review, and service rates evaluated without a common standard. It always reminds me of the story about the woman who approached Picasso in a restaurant, asked him to scribble something on a napkin, and said she would be happy to pay whatever he felt it was worth. Picasso complied and then said, “That will be $10,000.”
“But you did that in thirty seconds,” the astonished woman replied.
“No,” Picasso said. “It has taken me forty years to do that.”
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the value only for those who know.
